“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” – Osho
The day the nurses hand that tiny human in a mother’s hands, she takes the biggest blind leap into a completely uncharted territory! The amount of books one reads or hours spent listening to parenting talks, only prepares one for the journey of motherhood to a limited degree. The role of motherhood catches one completely off guard, not just the day one becomes a mother, but almost every single day from that day forward!
Ask a mother and she will tell you that there never comes a day or a time where she can confidently say she has has figured it all out! Be it a first time mom or a mom of multiple kids, be it a mom of a newborn, pre-teen, teen, young adult or adult, the role of a mom keeps evolving each day and the challenges she begins to face only gets more intense and complex with time!
Elizabeth Stone rightly said, “Making the decision to have a child – it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
Being a mother myself, I can vouch for that fact!
I remember in my early 20s, prior to my wedding, I used to dream of becoming a mom, dressing up my kids, taking them for music and dance lessons, baking with them, reading them bedtime stories and all those dreamy moments we see in advertisements. Now that I am a mom of two, doing all those previously mentioned is so much hard work. And that is not even 20% of motherhood! Simply getting through each day, fulfilling their basic needs feels like a marathon!
But do I regret being a mother? NEVER! NEVER in a million years! It’s a dream come true although it takes a lot of hard work, sacrifice, patience, perseverance, courage, faith and strength. The bond and the love a mom shares with her child is just PRICELESS! It is a invaluable gift, a treasure that cannot be traded with anything in this world!
Motherhood is messy. And challenging. And crazy. And sleepless. And giving. And still unbelievably beautiful. ~ Rachel Martin
Every single day is Mother’s Day! Mothers, celebrate yourself and all the mother figures you are surrounded with! Take a moment to appreciate and applaud yourself! Commend both your little and big accomplishments! Stand in front of a mirror, pat your back and tell yourself that you are doing a fabulous job!
It’s an absolute joy to share with you pictures Signe and her adorable little son Ashton! It was a very special experience to capture their bond!
